英语段落学习：The Recall of U.S. Troops

Chris Carlson had been out of the U.S. Army (离开美国陆军，退伍，复员，英语可以简单地用(get) out of the army就可以表达)for two years and was working at Costco in California(这说明他目前只是个平民) when he received notice that he was being called back into service(接到命令：召回入伍。was being called back into service，就是召回(入伍)，等于was recalled into active duty,或was called back into active duty).

The 24-year-old is one of thousands of Soldiers and Marines(海军陆战队) who have been deployed(军事部署。有一点需要说明的是：一个退伍军人被召回不等于被deployed，也就是不一定就上战场，这是recall to active duty和deploy的区别) to Iraq under a policy that allows military leaders to recall troops(还是召回的又一个说法) who have left the service(就是get out of the service，指military service军队服役) but still have time left on their contract(在他们的服役合同上依然还有剩余的服役时间。这点可能就需要对美国的“义务兵制度”要有所了解了。美国青年是“义务兵制”，每个人都有8年的服役义务。跟读大学一样，不一定像中国那样，要连续四年读完，可以分段完成。所以，美国的前军人“召回”，与其说是热情，不如说是尽本份。所以，很难想像他们能喊出中国军人“若有战，召必回”那样豪迈的语言来。).

Well when we say a soldier is on active duty, that means you will serve 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the military. It is just like working a full-time job. You work 8 hours a day, and five days a week.
